FAQs

Do I need experience to join? ▼

Not at all. Our Development Band is specifically for beginners. Whether you've never played a note or are returning to music after a break, we'll help you learn at your own pace in a welcoming environment.

Is there an age limit for joining? ▼

There is no upper age limit. We actively encourage young people to join - youth membership is a priority for us. Junior members (under 18) are very welcome and we work to keep costs affordable for families.

How much does membership cost? ▼

We keep membership costs as low as possible because our mission is to make piping and drumming accessible to everyone. Contact us for current rates - we can also discuss bursaries and payment plans where needed.

Do you provide instruments? ▼

Instruments are typically owned by members, but we may be able to help beginners access starter instruments. Talk to us when you enquire and we'll do our best to help you get started.

How far in advance should I book the band? ▼

We recommend enquiring as early as possible - particularly for summer weddings and events, as our competition season keeps us busy from May to August. However, we'll always do our best to accommodate last-minute requests if dates are available.

Do you travel outside Edinburgh? ▼

Yes - we perform across Scotland and can travel further for the right event. Travel costs may apply for events outside the Edinburgh area. Contact us to discuss.

Can I request specific tunes? ▼

Absolutely. For weddings and private events, we'll discuss your preferences and do our best to include tunes that are meaningful to you. Let us know when you make your booking enquiry.
